Hives CausesI have been asked by several people what causes hives or urticaria and angioedema. I have written this post to answer this question as it affects so many people.

Hives (urticaria) are itchy, red areas with white, raised, central circles and they look like mosquito bites. They can come and go over a one or two week period with no apparent reason.

Angioedema is a variant of hives. It presents as a marked swelling of the deeper tissues. It can be painful but it isn’t itchy.

Hives are a symptom of an allergic-reaction to certain substances.
